A GRAND OPENING CEREMONY : RACING FOR LIFE
The Formula 1 Lenovo Grand Prix du Canada 2026 will kick off with a world-class ceremony, conceived by two leading figures in Quebec’s creative scene: Gregory Charles, renowned multidisciplinary artist, and Hugues Letellier, internationally acclaimed designer and creative producer.
An iconic moment of the weekend, the grid show will come to life around the original concept “Racing for life”, an ambitious artistic project that draws a powerful parallel between top-level motor racing and the human journey. Through an immersive production and a universal narrative, life is portrayed as a race filled with challenges, emotions, pushing one’s limits and freedom.
Driven by a distinctly Canadian vision, the show stands out for its trilingual and inclusive approach, reflecting the country’s cultural diversity and Montreal’s unique identity. Designed to resonate with both the live audience and a global television audience, it promises a unifying, spectacular and deeply moving experience.
“I’m delighted and excited to have been chosen to design and direct the show that will precede the start of the 2026 Grand Prix du Canada. This is an opportunity to draw inspiration from my love for Montréal to create, alongside artists I admire and love, a vibrant, colourful, lively and radiant musical signature that reflects our city.” — Gregory Charles
A large-scale immersive production
Designed to maximise the visual and sensory impact, the ceremony will feature a large-scale stage set-up installed right at the heart of the circuit Gilles Villeneuve. A central diamond-shaped stage, integrated into a chequered track, will allow for a 360-degree performance, immersing the audience in a unique experience.
The artistic distribution will bring together :
Four lead singers
Two musicians (guitar and bass)
A 30-strong choir
A drumline comprising 16 musicians from the Montreal Carabins marching band
Four dancers for the opening sequence
A showcase of Canadian talent
The ceremony will showcase leading artists who embody the richness and diversity of the Canadian music scene :
Matt Lang, a rising star of Canadian country music
Boogat, a leading figure on Montreal’s Latin music scene
Véronic DiCaire, an internationally renowned artist
Kim Richardson, Canada’s iconic voice
The national anthem will be performed by the Chœur Nouveau, conducted by Gregory Charles, bringing together 30 singers from a variety of communities in an inclusive and representative ensemble.

The return of the Snowbirds celebrating their 55th season of airshows will add a spectacular and highly symbolic dimension to this opening.
A Montreal musical signature
The soundscape for the ceremony will be entrusted to two well-known DJs :
DJ Montana, official DJ for Radio-Canada and the PWHL Victoire de Montréal

AN ENHANCED SPORTS PROGRAM
The Formula 1 Lenovo Grand Prix du Canada 2026 weekend promises to be more exciting and dynamic than ever, with the addition and evolution of major series set to transform the trackside experience. The F1 Academy is introducing a brand-new three-race format starting in Montreal, including a strategic opening race whose grid will be determined by the second-fastest time in qualifying. This new feature, combined with the reverse-grid race and the main race, heightens the competitive intensity and gives drivers more track time, whilst offering fans an even more fast-paced and unpredictable spectacle.
As part of this drive to ramp up the action, Montréal will host a Sprint race for the first time – a spectacular format already adopted by several cities in the championship. This short race, held on Saturday, redefines the weekend’s schedule, adding excitement from Friday onwards with the Sprint qualifying sessions, and delivering a succession of highlights right through to Sunday’s Grand Prix. Furthermore, the arrival of FIA Formula 2 marks a historic milestone, as Montréal becomes one of the first North American stops on this series, which is essential for the development of future Formula 1 drivers, thereby consolidating the Grand Prix’s position as a comprehensive motorsport platform.

MOBILE APP: STAY INFORMED AND CONNECTED
Back again this year, the official F1GPCanada mobile app is the go-to resource for getting the most out of the event, before, during and between races. Available on Apple and Android, it keeps spectators up to date in real time with notifications on transport, safety, weather, the programme and food options, ensuring a seamless, connected and optimised experience across the entire site. Designed to make getting around easier and improve visitor comfort, this innovation is also part of a responsible approach, with over 97% of spectators already opting for public transport, thereby contributing to a sustainable experience and reducing the event’s environmental footprint.
