THE BROOKS FINALLY UNVEIL THEIR ALBUM 'SOON AS I CAN'

AND ANNOUNCE AN ADDITIONAL SHOW

AT THE MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL JAZZ FESTIVAL IN JUNE 2025

Montréal, QC – October 3, 2024 – The electrifying band THE BROOKS finally unveils their long-awaited album Soon As I Can under the Big in the Garden label. Known for their distinctive sound and captivating live performances, the musicians are ready to deliver a complete album that will satisfy both their loyal fans and those yet to discover them. Soon As I Can highlights the band's unique sound and heartfelt lyrics, offering fans the rich experience they've been eagerly awaiting. The album will be available as of tomorrow (October 4) at midnight on all music platforms, allowing listeners to dive into The Brooks' unique blend of soul, funk, and profound storytelling.

Their 5th album release sees this dynamic quartet of seasoned musicians dive deeper into the musical influences that originally united them. An electrifying mix of 9 tracks, recorded live at Montreal’s iconic Pierre Marchand Studio, this album was shaped with the expertise of veteran engineer Fred Bouchard and Brooks co-founder Marc Bell, capturing the raw, live energy that has defined the band for over a decade. With the soulful Alan 'Funt' Prater leading on vocals and trombone, the guitar and vocal creativity of Philippe Look, the rhythmic precision of percussionist Philippe Beaudin, and the deep psychedelic grooves of bassist and band leader Alexandre Lapointe, Soon as I Can is sure to have you boppin’ & groovin’. With this new offering, The Brooks had a clear mission: to create an album that feels alive, as if you're right there in the room with them. So with the help of top-tier guest musicians, they set out to create the follow up to their critically acclaimed album “Any Day Now”, released in 2020.

The result is a sonic journey that effortlessly blends Soul, Funk, R&B, Jazz, Gospel, Disco, Afrobeat and Pop. Each song offers a unique vibe, from the slick, polished track “Sista”, which pays homage to the songstresses that inspire them, to the spontaneous jam that spawned “Mirror, Mirror”, capturing the soulful, laid back magic of the studio sessions, while giving listeners a rare glimpse into the group’s organic creative process.

This album isn’t just about reliving the past—it’s about showcasing the band’s evolution. With years of tours, major festival appearances, and countless live shows under their belts, headlining as well as supporting legendary acts like Kool & the Gang, The Doobie Brothers and Charles Bradley, you can hear the maturity in the execution of these new compositions.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or discovering The Brooks for the first time, Soon as I Can is sure to capture your attention. From the soaring soulful melodies to the deep funk rhythms, the album is a testament to the band's enduring artistry that has seen them continuously evolve and connect with audiences worldwide.

ABOUT THE BROOKS

From their first performances in the velvety ambiance of the Dièse Onze to the big stages of prestigious festivals, from one side of the Atlantic to the other, The Brooks have built a reputation as an undeniable groove machine. At the heart of the project’s musical supergroup which formed in the early 2010s is the pure joy of playing, true artistic freedom, and equitable creativity. Electrifying on record as much as on stage, The Brooks’ sound is carried by bouncy rhythms, flamboyant brasses, inventive keys, and captivating guitar passages. Swimming between funk, soul, r’n’b, afrobeat, and jazz, The Brooks reunites four core members; the co-founder, leader, and bassist Alexandre Lapointe; the veteran singer and trombonist Alan Prater; guitarist and co-founder Philippe Look; and percussionist Philippe Beaudin; all four accomplished musicians with the careers to prove it. Today, the collective has birthed four studio albums, with their most recent Soon As I Can (2024) pushing their groove to new summits.

The Brooks is much more than the sum of its parts: the group celebrates over 50 years of Afro-American music history and evolution, at once respective of its roots while remaining anchored in the present.
