UK-BORN SAM TUCKER FINDS CONTINUED INSPIRATION IN THE THE WILDS OF GASPESIE, RELEASING A FANTASTIC NEW SINGLE AND FORTHCOMING EP
PINING FOR YOU IS OUT NOW
Montreal, QC September 14, 2022- PINING FOR YOU is the brand new single from talented singer/songwriter (and former La Voix contestant), Sam Tucker, who was known more for his Americana and folk rock stylings, before the pandemic hit. Now that things are back to “normal” for touring musicians, Sam’s established career as a troubadour continues, but he had also explored new directions while stuck at home, and quickly focused his creative energy into a project called GROW, which was much more of a tonal shift for Sam. With GROW: PART I , Sam married the kinds of lo-fi hip-hop beats that he was listening to online with a swampier, trippier approach to guitar playing, very detached airy vocals, and sonic effects like the crackle of old electronics, which made for a very unique and distinct sound - opening the big tent feel of his music to a larger fan base.
With PINING FOR YOU, Sam has expanded on the sounds on the previous EP by inviting sought-after musicians like Max Bellavance (drummer for, amongst others, The Brooks) and Jonathan Arseneau (who plays bass for various projects including the Urban Science Hip Hop collective) to the project, giving the tracks a more organic and dynamic feel.
The song starts off right away with ethereal falsetto vocals beckoning the listener to bend their ear. The track is driven along by a dirty 60’s sounding soul guitar riff one might expect from early Black Keys songs, then then supported by a series of easy breezy chords; very 70’s-sounding Fleetwood Mac style style drums with a slight hip-hop lilt; a warped sax solo straight out of a feverish Yacht Rock dream; and somewhat sexy high-pitched come-hither vocals:
Well you’ve been waiting for me
But I’ve been waiting lord
For you to take it from me
All right
When you’ve got nothing to lose
But your convictions to prove
Gonna be
Pining for you
According to Sam, PINING FOR YOU speaks about rifts in relationships, where one person holds a desire or intention, but the other sometimes struggles to reciprocate or follow them down that path. “It’s a reflection on coming to terms with the needs of the ones you love and how you balance those needs with your own” says Sam. “It’s about growing as a person, for yourself and others.” Hence the title of the project.
The Lyric video is available here.
The full EP, GROW: PART II will be available on November 11th.
