NEWLY MINTED RECORD LABEL, THE CROWND, DISTILLS THE SOUND OF MONTREAL, AMPLIFIES IT ACROSS THE GLOBE!

FIRST RELEASE: LATELY, BY ODIOUS LOVE FEATURING UNDRWVTER OUT NOW!

Montréal, August 30th, 2021 - Montreal’s legendary musical output has been written about numerous times in the international press, but historically there has always been an attempt to pigeonhole the sound - which is somewhat problematic - that’s about to change with The Crownd, a new label founded founded by Odious Love and due to a strong brotherhood and partnership between Odious love, Muzion’s Imposs and Entrepreneur Alix Souffront, the 3 joined forces to push music coming out of Quebec to international heights. The Crownd is a new musical home for some of the best this city has to offer, regardless of the style. The philosophy is simple - an indie label that moves like a major, a hybrid model for the music business at a time when a new approach is a necessity, especially given the unique talent pool and distinct culture in Quebec.

The Crownd represents the best of both worlds, a local label crafted from Montreal’s DNA with international ambition and reach. Being an artist-run label, the approach is not based on target audiences and focus groups, rather it’s about the artistry and the craft, but with partners in territories around the world including Sony Music’s The Orchard in distribution, The Crowndis perfectly positioned to give its artists the best chance of being seen and heard by a large and engaged audience around the globe.

The first release is an EDM track from Odious Love featuring vocals from UNDRWVTER. It’s a high energy banger that fits as well on pop radio as it does in the club with hills and valleys that take the listener on a musical journey. Producer, Artist and Entrepreneur Odious Love, is no stranger to the international and Montreal music scenes and has produced many successful hits for artists on Spinnin, Sony Music and Universal Music over the years. Being compared to many greats such as Martix Garrix, Diplo, Dj Snake, Bob Sinclair, Odious Love is set to become a major household name out of Montreal and we will hear more releases before the end of year.

The name The Crownd is a reference to the type of hierarchical society that early African kingdoms were built upon, and for the label founders, the Crownd kingdom includes the fans as much as the artists. That’s an important distinction, as Montreal is currently home to some of the best music in the world right now, but with so much talent operating under the radar, too often, the fans don’t get exposed to the artists who are working outside of the big machine - and The Crownd plans to change that.

Another raison d’être of the label is to support the local music community, in an organic way, creating an infrastructure for international success and encouraging the artists on the roster to collaborate and cross pollinate and maximize exposure. According to the founders, the label takes great care in playing up the human aspect, with emphasis placed on artistry, heart and vibe - while being incredibly detail oriented and on-the-ball in a business sense - as stated earlier: the best of both worlds.
