Le Studio TD will present a concert by Magi Merlin

A third free concert part of Série Libre presented by TD


Montreal, January 19, 2023 – Le Studio TD is proud to welcome a third emerging artist as part of Série Libre presented by TD. On Thursday, February 9 at 8 p.m., it will be Magi Merlin’s turn to hit the stage for a free concert.

Launched last September, Série Libre presented by TD is a driver of social change that gives diverse local talents an opportunity to perform in a professional context. During Black History Month, Magi Merlin will present a large-scale concert, in addition to recording a song and a video portrait showcasing her music and creative process. Last year, Naomi and Hanorah also had the chance to push their musical career forward as part of this initiative.

Magi Merlin – a young artist to watch

After building a cult following with her EPs Drug Music and On My Way to the Listening Party, and subsequent singles, the enigmatic Magi Merlin (pronounced MADGE-eye) levels up with Gone Girl, her most daring project to date.

Produced by beatmaker Funkywhat, a longtime collaborator of Merlin, Gone Girl is influenced by ’90s house, drum and bass, Motown, and hip hop.

With a voice that calls to mind the hazy mood of a bass-heavy after-hour party, the self-described ‘cheeky nihilist’ combines jazzy scats, rap and breakbeats to tackle such issues as generational anxiety, fake friendships, and racism.
