LUGUENTZ DORT IN THE NBA FINALS

Montréal, June 5, 2025 – Today marks a historic moment for Montréal sports as Luguentz Dort, a native of Montréal-Nord, makes his first appearance in the NBA Finals with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The entire Montréal sports community and basketball fans across Québec join together to extend their congratulations and support. The game will take place tonight at 8:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Luguentz Dort is writing a significant chapter in Québec basketball history. From his early days on Montréal’s courts to his current place among the NBA’s top defenders, his journey is one of relentless hard work, admirable resilience, and unwavering determination. He embodies grit, excellence, and pushing beyond limits. He now has a real shot at lifting the prestigious Larry O’Brien trophy.

Beyond his athletic talents, Dort has become an inspirational role model for an entire generation. He shows young people here that it is possible to dream big, work hard, and stay true to your roots. A proud representative of the Haitian, Francophone, and Montréal communities, he puts Québec on the international stage with an authenticity that commands respect.

As part of this historic Finals series, The Players’ Tribune yesterday published an exclusive interview with Luguentz Dort. This exchange highlights his vision, journey, and commitment. It is now available in both English and French.

ABOUT LUGUENTZ DORT

Born in 1999 to Haitian parents in Montréal-Nord, Luguentz Dort has overcome many obstacles to become an internationally recognized basketball player. From an early age, he showed exceptional talent and unshakable determination. After a standout college career at Arizona State University, Dort entered the NBA in 2019, signing a five-year, $87.5 million contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In 2022, he co-founded the Maizon Dort Foundation to support youth in underserved communities in Montréal, Oklahoma City, and central Arizona through team sports.

Nicknamed “LuTheBeast”, he is known for his lockdown defense, agility, and clutch scoring. His journey — from modest courts in Montréal to the NBA’s biggest stages — is a testament to his resilience and dedication.

In 2024, at age 25, Dort represented Canada at the Summer Olympics in Paris — a historic milestone in his career. In 2025, he was honored with a selection to the NBA All-Defense Team of the Year.
